Men’s body image campaigners held a demonstration in protest against the lack of diversity outside London Fashion Week’s main venue The Strand. The campaigners want men of more shapes, sizes and disabilities to be included in runway shows. They raised the issue that the male models who take to the catwalks with “perfect” bodies cause ordinary men to feel depressed, as the “tiny” 28-inch waist of a typical Fashion Week model – a size nine inches smaller than the UK average. The online menswear retailer Jacamo campaigns for greater diversity in male fashion and highlights that a third of British men are unhappy with their bodies and a fifth take slimming pills or embark on crash diets.

Dame Vivienne Westwood joined mayor Sadiq Khan in praising London as the leader of “eclectic” style at a launch party for London Fashion Week Men, The Evening Standard reports. The recent buzz around the capital’s fashion scene was enough to make Westwood move her business from Italy back to London. As home to iconic names like Burberry and Alexander McQueen, as well as a promising generation of new talent, the capital is up there with the other prominent style leaders, according to Khan. “Our city can now legitimately lay claim to being one of the big four fashion capitals of the world, alongside Paris, Milan and New York,” the mayor said.

Male chokers went on sale at online fashion retailer ASOS and caused a stir on social media. Like most fashionable trends, it first appeared on the runway such as Phillip Lim, Bottega Veneta and Louis Vuitton who have all marketed chokers towards a male audience and even Matt Lauer, the host of The Today Show sported a black choker on live TV. The trend has caused a stir online with one person’s tweet surmounting 14,000 likes and 6,000 retweets.
