Album Review: Roots Manuva - Bleeds (@rootsmanuva)
The godfather of British Hip Hop is returning to music with his sixth studio album ‘Bleeds.’
Opener ‘Hard Bastards’ is full of bass driven, warped beats and heavy wordplay, much like the rest of the album. Roots doesn’t disappoint with his famous blending mix of funk, soul and reggae. However you can’t help, but notice this record is the most emotionally charged and focussed we’ve heard him yet. The rap commentary injected over the backdrop of multi layered sounds, creates powerful, gospel-like vibes. In his own words, the title is an “egocentric jest of daring to do things in the tradition of Jesus.” In my opinion, Roots has provided a hymn book for the streets. ‘Bleeds’ is set for release October 30th2015.
